ROME – In a further sign of its expansion mode, Antenna Group, the largest media company in Greece, has appointed Tariq Syed to the newly created position of Managing Director of Digital Assets and Thematic Channels, leading all digital investments of the company that recently formed a strategic partnership with Vice Media to launch Vice across Southeast Europe.

Syed joins Antenna from Universal Networks International at NBC, where he served as Managing Director, Central Europe. In January the privately owned outfit founded by Greek shipping magnate and billionaire Minos Kyriakou appointed former NBCU Int’l prexy Peter Smith as its managing director.

Antenna Group is currently investing aggressively in new markets in South-East Europe. It recently closed deals involving purchases of PRVA Televizija in Serbia, PRVA Montenegro, and Planet TV in Slovenia.

The group with offices in Amsterdam, London, Athens and New York distributes content in over 40 countries. It has long been buying TV assets in Eastern Europe and the Balkans and turning them into profitable operations, but is now pursuing accelerated growth.
